Skilled Migrant Category
The Skilled Migrant Category is a points-based permanent residence pathway for individuals with skills, qualifications, and work experience needed in New Zealand.
Overview
The New Zealand Skilled Migrant Category (SMC) is a permanent residence pathway for applicants who possess skills, qualifications, and work experience that are in demand in New Zealand. It operates on a points-based system, where applicants must meet basic requirements such as age, English language ability, health, and character, and earn points based on factors like qualifications, work experience, and skilled employment. Applicants can enhance their competitiveness by securing skilled employment or a job offer in New Zealand. Successful applicants and their accompanying family members enjoy New Zealand permanent resident benefits, including indefinite stay, work, study, and healthcare. This pathway is suitable for applicants with occupations in shortage or high-skilled backgrounds, but policy changes may occur, so it is advisable to check official updates.
